Rick has dedicated his life to helping others.  Through his love of people and finance, he makes the world a better place every day by helping his clients and skills set he helps others through smart, safe financial planning. That means he helps his clients achieve the best possible financial health they could achieve.

He comes from a modest, middle American family.  His family was not the type of family who would typically receive the attention of a financial advisor.  It was through this upbringing that he decided to purposefully focus on helping other families individuals who would not normally receive the attention of a financial advisor.  Everyone needs help, but not everyone can find it.  

Early on in his career, he realized that the only way to be truly fulfilled is help others.  He started off in the very high profile world of investment banking.  He was always driven to achieve great things and early in his career he was misguided into thinking those great things should be about him.   After becoming disenchanted with 100 hour work weeks demanded by the investment banking world, he briefly left finance all together.  He worked forlarge internet conglomerate selling advertising.  He quickly moved through the ranks and within 6 months was promoted to manage a team of 13 sales reps. 

That experienced had a tremendous impact on him.  It was the first time in his life that success did not revolve around him, but rather helping others.  While he felt fulfilled managingteam and helping them grow and realize their full potential, he desperately missed finance. 

After months and months of soul searching, he realized he could marry his love of finance with his love of helping others. The seed was planted.  He attacked his studies for the certificate in financial planning, paying for it out of his own pocket even before starting his financial planning practice.

After almost 10 years in New York City, he moved to San Francisco and started his financial planning practice.  He always knew he would start his own firm, but he wanted to focus first and foremost on helping others.  So he chose to begin his practice with Wachovia Securities, who was eventually acquired by Wells Fargo Advisors.  In working with a big firm initially, he was able to outsource the compliance and operations of his business to the larger firm. After many years helping his clients, he decided the timing was right to branch out on his own, so he could help his clients in ways that wouldn't be possible at a large Wall Street firm.  That was the birth of The Financial Zen Group.
